“Curiosity is the most powerful thing you own” – James Cameron
Often, media and culture promote the idea that we should view those who disagree with us as enemies. Research shows that when our curiosity seeks multiple perspectives, we can open our minds, increase our empathy, reduce our fears, encourage self-awareness, and promote humility. Curiosity about how and why other people arrive at values and beliefs can lead to better solutions, understanding, and appreciation. Because our life experiences shape who we are, sharing our stories and learning about the stories of others can help to bridge gaps, and help us to make the choice to become more curious and less furious. In this conversation we will share thoughts and experiences about choosing to be curious and explore how listening to different points of view might make us feel vulnerable or at risk, and we will talk about the benefits of stepping into this vulnerability.
