For all new residential, industrial, and commercial projects, an approved development permit is required before a safety codes permit can be issued.
Generally, tenant improvements and repair projects do not require a Development Permit, unless the work being done alters the approved Development Permit or includes structural alterations.
Please contact the Planning Department if you have any questions regarding Development Permits or click here for the MD's Development Services page for more information.
The Safety Codes Act requires that all contractors and homeowners in Alberta obtain permits prior to commencing work on buildings covered by National Building Code or other Disciplined Codes. Plan reviews and site inspections are provided to ensure that residents and business owners in the M.D. of Bighorn are safe. These permits include building, electrical, plumbing, gas and mechanical disciplines. Each of these disciplines follows its own set of codes, and work must be completed by a qualified trades person.
