Protective Services
Protective Services provided by the Municipal District consist of safety codes inspections on commercial operations, fire prevention / suppression equipment and forces.

Policing
Policing is provided by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) through rural detachments in other centres.

Fire Safety Services
There are three fire districts in the Municipal District of Bighorn each with its own fire hall: Benchlands (also referred to as the “Ghost” fire district), Exshaw, and Jamieson Road.

Ambulance Services
Ambulance services are provided by Alberta Health Services.

Municipal Emergency Plan
Alberta municipalities are required to prepare a Municipal Emergency Plan (MEP), to be used in disaster situations, such as flooding, forest fires, and explosions.

Evacuation Zones
The MD’s Evacuation Plan includes 15 Evacuation Zones. Residents are encouraged to view the Overview Evacuation Zones Map to see which zone they live in. Detailed Zone maps will be posted in the future when public versions of the maps are available.

New Emergency Notification System
In times of crisis it is important that residents have access to trusted, timely and accurate information to ensure their own safety and that of their family and loved ones. In response to this need, MD of Bighorn has chosen Voyent Alert! as the communication service provider for these kinds of events. Voyent Alert! is a multi-purpose communication service used to send alerts to residents, businesses, and visitors during critical events like fires or floods as well as for relevant day-to-day communications such as snow removal advisories, planned maintenance, water advisories, etc.
