Suicide Prevention

Suicide Prevention - We Need to Talk About it!

Every year in Alberta suicide takes more than 500 lives. Over 75% of those deaths are men, most between the ages of 30 and 69. These men are our fathers, brothers, husbands, sons, uncles and grandfathers gone from our lives.

Stigma

Stigma around mental illness and suicide can prevent middle-aged men from reaching out and seeking support during times of crisis. Suicide is preventable. If anyone in your life is struggling, you can help. Remember that talking about suicide will not make a person suicidal

Starting the Conversation

The Alberta Suicide Prevention Network is launching Keep Him Here, a new provincial campaign designed to start the conversation about suicide. Visit Keep Him Here website to learn more about how to recognize the signs of suicide, start a conversation and reach out to help the men in your life.
