Ghost-Waiparous Trails Association

Community Partnership

The Ghost Waiparous recreation lease area and trail system, known as the Back 40, is provided for the enjoyment of area residents, through a partnership between the Municipal District of Bighorn (Municipal District), the Summer Village of Waiparous (SVW) and the Ghost-Waiparous Trails Association (GWTA) under an agreement with the Government of Alberta, Environment and Parks. These facilities are maintained by community volunteers following the Back 40 Resource Management Plan.

If you access this area by foot, have your pet(s) on leash and practice COVID-19 physical distancing requirements, pick up and remove all pet and human waste/garbage as you go and deposit it in the garbage when you get home.

FireSmart Planning

FireSmart planning has been undertaken by the partners and will be moving forward under the guidance of the Back 40 Firesmart Committee (a GWTA working committee with members from Benchlands, Ghost, SVW and Forestry) as funding opportunities arise with community information and consultation occurring at each operational planning step. Ghost-Waiparous Back 40 FireSmart Plan questions may be emailed to representatives.
