On Nov. 4, 2019, Parent Link centres across the province received notice from the provincial government that contract funding for all Parent Link services will end on March 31, 2020 and will not be renewed. The MD of Bighorn will work with our partners to help to continue to deliver programs for children and families in our area. From Town of Canmore:
Bow Valley Parent Link (BVPL) is an inter-municipal community initiative operated and managed by the Town of Canmore in partnership with the Town of Banff and the MD of Bighorn.
This is sad and disappointing news, but please know that we are working hard to keep parent link services in the community.Right now, there are a lot of uncertainties, but Alberta’s Children’s Services will be introducing a new funding model on November 7, 2019. As we learn more, we will update families and community on the future of Parent Link services. In the meantime, we invite you to connect with our local MLA, Miranda Rosin, to support her with continuing to advocate for early childhood development supports and services in our community. Please visit https://canmore.ca/residents/family-community-services/parental-support for additional information.
From Town of Cochrane:
All current Parent Link Centre (PLC), resource centre and home visitation programs continue and will remain in place at least until the end of March 2020. Future funding decisions will be made by Alberta Children’s Services based on responses to expressions of interest. The requests for expressions of interest will be released November 7.
Cochrane PLC staff will take a close look at the new process and the requirements so they can apply for funding under the new model.
The Town’s goal is to continue to deliver programs for children and families in our area. PLC staff are optimistic that programs and services delivered by Cochrane PLC and Western Rocky View Resource Centre align with the provincial framework.
Current PLC programs include developmental play programs, parent education, developmental screening, Triple P (Positive Parenting Program), parent resource library, family support and rural programs in Bearspaw, Beaupre & Bragg Creek.
