Dead Man's Flats FireSmart Project

FireSmart fuel reduction work has commenced on Municipal and Provincial forested lands within Dead Man's Flats to reduce the threat of wildfire to life and property within the Hamlet.

The project commenced November 16, 2017 and will continue for 2-3 months.

The project includes FireSmart recommended standards including:

  • thinning of understory spruce trees,
  • removal of dead and down & dead standing trees and brush
  • pruning of limbs from the remaining spruce trees.

Debris will mostly be piled and burned onsite.  Depending on weather and snow conditions, piles may be left to smoulder overnight.  Smoke will be visible from the community throughout this project.

Firewood will be piled at the edge of trails and roads for residents to remove

REMEMBER **Please stack firewood as far away from your house as possible to reduce the fuel load next to your house**
